I remember knocking on the door of Rabbi Noah Weinberg Z"L the leader and founder of Aish HaTorah, holding my keyboard in one hand and the lyrics to this song in the other. Rabbi Weinberg welcomed me in, and I handed him the words to the song and then set up my keyboard against his desk.
I played in the song while he read the words. When I finished, he looked up and said, "very nice!" what would take to record this song and give it out at our next fundraising event? I told him I would try to find a recording studio and he told me he would take care of all of the expenses.
That was back in 1995 when this song Generation to Generation was first released in Israel and performed at Aish HaTorah's Gala Dinner Event in Jerusalem, Israel.
For many years I've wanted to re-record the song and release it world-wide and finally it has come to fruition. I've made a few changes, added a bridge and had some help from Hillel Kapnick and Craig Levy two very talented musicians and producers.
I hope you enjoy it and that it gives you strength and inspiration.
Only good things, Gedalya

Lyrics

Generation to Generation

He remembers the stories his grandfather told about the old country
How he and his grandma escaped from the war and took all their faith to a foreign shore
He remembers the place he grew up in on the lower east side
How his mother and father would welcome the seasons and keep all their traditions alive

Generation to Generation all the trial and tribulation
We’ve been through so much together we’re sharing a vision, a vision forever
Generation to Generation on a spiritual destination
There’s so much we can learn from each other we’ve got to be there for one another

Now he sits and he teaches his children with words they can understand
He shows them the way to strengthen their minds and opens their eyes to the oneness of life
He fills them with knowledge he does it with all the love he can give
Like his mother and father in their generation he passes the torch on to his kids

Generation to Generation all the trial and tribulation
We’ve been through so much together we’re sharing a vision, a vision forever
Generation to Generation on a spiritual destination
There’s so much we can learn from each other we’ve got to be there for one another

Poverty and pogroms took us from our farms the freedom of the city in the nineteenth century
The struggles and the challenges and how we’ve managed to keep tradition going when the wind of change was blowing
Assimilation, education rabbis of the generation defending our principles enlightened intellectuals
Near annihilation a religion or a nation survival revival and our final destination

Generation to Generation all the trial and tribulation
We’ve been through so much together we’re sharing a vision, a vision forever
Generation to Generation on a spiritual destination
There’s so much we can learn from each other we’ve got to be there for one another
