I wrote the words to this song thirty-four years ago. I was sitting in a coffee shop looking out if the window, contemplating life. It was a time that I was saying goodbye to that carefree period of no commitments and coming to the realization that I'm getting older, and things are inevitably getting a bit more serious.

Lyrics

Used to be I could think through any kind of pain
Sit on the moon and look down at the rain
As I get older it’s harder not to feel the grip of time
As I get older it’s harder not to slip off of the line

I’m walking on life’s high wire, walking life’s high wire

Used to be I could blend with any kind of scene
Talk about life like it was a dream
As I get older it’s harder not to cross the boundary
As I get older it’s harder not to lose stability

I’m walking on life’s high wire, walking life’s high wire

Trying to find my talents, yeah, trying to keep my balance oh

The future’s in a hurry and there’s no net on the ground
The past has been buried under the bridges I burned down

I’m walking on life’s high wire, walking on life’s high wire

Trying to find my talents, yeah, trying to keep my balance oh

I’m walking on life’s high wire…..walking on life’s high wire
