Album 2022 brings together classic songs and new releases in latest album from the Folk-rock Rabbi

NEW YORK (August 13, 2022) — After a year of releasing new songs and fresh takes on old favorites, Gedalya, popularly known as the Folk-rock Rabbi recently turned his efforts into releasing a full album.

Those efforts came to fruition on August 11 with the release of Album 2022.

“For many albums are a thing of the past, and so I've been focused on releasing singles," Gedalya said. But, for those of you who are in search of the "Album Experience," I wanted to create something that fills that desire and so Album 2022 combines new releases from this year along with fresh takes on some of my classic songs."

While many of the tracks were written and recorded just this year, for Album 2022, he also re-recorded some of his piano/vocal songs from the past, each song, with full backing, creating a cohesive album that reflects his continuing goal of creating music that takes listeners on a positive journey that reflects hope and understanding.

And of course, a touch of faith.

"Faith drives many of the tracks along with a desire to explore the best in us all," Gedalya said.
He credits that faith along with his family, friends and collaborators for the creation of the album.

"While Album 2022 reflects my thoughts and emotions, there are so many behind me that makes it possible to continue to create and release music," Gedalya said. "And my supporters and fans continue to make it all worthwhile. I hope everyone enjoys the album."

Gedalya looks toward his experiences to create song that pushes the listener to explore their motivations

NEW YORK (August 2, 2022) — “Are you eating to live, or living to eat?”

Wake Up, the newest single from Gedalya, popularly known as the Folk-Rock Rabbi, departs from his typical folk sound to explore that question alongside a driving pop beat and spoken word lyrics.

“The song dates back to some of my earliest explorations into a religious life,” Gedalya said. “On a trip to Israel in the 90s, a Rabbi asked me that question, and it immediacy struck me as a deeply profound thought.”

From that question, Gedalya’s song pushes the listener to dig into their goals and motivations.

“The things that make us feel alive shouldn’t be an afterthought to our daily responsibilities,” Gedalya said. “Unless you want your life to pass you by, the song warns the listener to wake up and find ways to live their best life while finding the incredible opportunities all around.”

He said those opportunities may not always work out but often lead to rewarding and memorable experiences.

“In the song, I share a couple of examples of times in my life where the desire to please put me in positions that were less than desirable,” Gedalya said. “But those activities are a part of me and will be forever. From that, I am grateful for the experience, but as many do, I wish I had been more engaged with the bigger picture.”

With Wake Up, he hopes the audience finds solace in their actions and takes advantage of life's opportunities.

“Each of us is given this life, but it’s up to us to make the most of it,” Gedalya said. “I hope this song helps the listeners understand what they want from life and gives them the drive to pursue it.”

NEW YORK (June 29, 2022) — Gedalya, the New York based musician known for his infectious melodies and positive, lyrics is pleased to announce the release of his latest single Needle and Thread.

The song explores the connection between all people and how understanding can bring unity to those that otherwise would face conflict.

“Underneath our different exteriors, we are all connected spiritually,” Gedalya said. “Needle and Thread challenges my listeners to see past what is driving them individually and recognize the similarities that bring us together.”

“Our souls are sewn together with the same needle and thread,” he sings in the chorus in a recognition that the pain and difficulties everyone faces should bring us together instead of tearing people apart.

And he hopes the song can help people achieve that desire.

“Too often, we pursue our needs while viewing the world through the lens of our experiences,” Gedalya said. “But what goes unrecognized is that underneath it all, we are all cut from the same spiritual cloth, and if we accept in our hearts no matter our differences, deep down we share far more than we don’t, we will live more fulfilling and rewarding lives. This song is a recognition and a celebration of what we share.”

The song also fits into the mission of A New Song USA, a not-for-profit organization that promotes music with a positive message. The group was founded by Gedalya, who still serves as director alongside his musical performances and recording.

“With A New Song USA, I want to encourage artists and fans to find the most rewarding parts of their lives and share them with others,” Gedalya said. “The music we promote is a way to do precisely that.”

(New York) As Gedalya, better known as the folk-rock rabbi, continues looking back at his long music journey, two early songs from the prolific artist's catalog have recently received a new look as the artist has worked to bring some of his earliest songs to a new generation.

Gedalya has been sharing his music with audiences since the '90s, each sharing a part of Gedalya's life and experience, but few he said have been as personal as A Knock at the Door and The Promised Land, and now with this fresh take on the two classic songs, Gedalya can reflect on what those times and these songs mean, more than 20 years on.

"Many of my songs reflect my emotional and spiritual journey in life and music," Gedalya said. "These two songs may have been written at different times, but in that regard, they hold a special connection to my heart and to lessons learned at those times."

With A Knock at the Door, he recounts is a song about a Holocaust survivor that he first met while living in Miami Beach.

"His name was Rabbi Grosz," Gedalya said. "He was a funny man with a kind heart and a warm welcome."

Gedalya proudly accepted life lessons from Grosz, who spoke and wrote about his family's experience through the Holocaust. Those experiences can be seen as a direct link to Gedalya's music, especially A Knock at the Door.

"We would travel together and visit school children, he would tell his stories of surviving the holocaust, and I would share this song," Gedalya said. "It was a beautiful and fulfilling experience, and I am proud to continue to share it with my audience."

Dating to before A Knock at the Door, he wrote the second part of the recent mashup, The Promised Land, after experiencing concentration camp sites in Poland.

"Before, I had been ashamed of my Jewish heritage," Gedalya said. "Following that experience, I found my way back to the faith and felt that spirit as I wrote the song."

Ultimately, he hopes with the recent release of A Knock at the Door and The Promised Land, his fans, new and old, feel Gedalya's deep connection to his faith and can take meaning from it.
Gedalya tag:thefolkrockrabbi.com,2005:Post/68914372022-02-07T21:46:01-05:002022-02-07T21:46:01-05:00Latest release from Gedalya reflects on his three-decade career with an updated version of a classic song
The Folk-Rock Rabbi tells a personal story with 'If I Were Superman'

(New York) Geoffrey Sloshay, better known as Gedalya, the Folk-rock rabbi, is back again with another one of his infectious songs, but this time taking it back to his beginnings in New York in 1991.

With his release, If I Were Superman, Gedalya shares a powerful message that resonates now as much as it did then, but with an impressive array of musicality that transcends the decades, the song has found a new life as challenges across the world bring people to look inward.

"At the time I wrote, If I Were Superman, I was living in Queens, in a small apartment with my father and was determined to find a way to be a Rockstar, no matter what," Gedalya said. "It was the first effort toward achieving my goals, and so carries a special meaning for me, and I am proud to share it once again, all these years later, with the hope that others will find special meaning in it as well."

A more low-key version of the song was released on Gedalya's collection of piano and vocal tracks, but with a fresh take, accompanied by powerful supporting vocals and a more produced sound, If I Were Superman brings that same powerful message to a new audience.

"It’s about dreams,” Gedalya said. “My dreams, the listeners' dreams, our collective dreams, and how we all share the same deep feeling that if we had the chance, we can truly make a difference and create a better world.”

“For thirty years, this song has been in my repertoire,” he said. “And now, with this latest version and release, a whole new generation can experience a message that will hopefully strengthen their own belief in themselves and help to unite us all.”

Gedalya tag:thefolkrockrabbi.com,2005:Post/68855432022-02-01T12:02:41-05:002022-02-01T12:02:41-05:00With latest release Folk-rock rabbi Gedalya asks listeners to look ahead with focus
‘The End of Days’ shares a powerful message of finding the light by using experience to influence future decisions

(New York) With his newest release Gedalya, the Folk-rock rabbi, takes listeners through a musical reflection of life decisions – good or bad.

Opening the track, Gedalya opens with the dichotomous nature of planning and its effect on lives.

“Some people will look far ahead and foresee the impact their actions may have on themselves and those around them, but others have a more laissez-faire approach,” Gedalya said. “But no matter their choices, good or bad, everyone will at some point become aware and atone for their transgressions.”

He said with the song, he hopes more people will understand finding better days ahead relies on understanding their ability to make positive decisions and rejecting negative influences.

Experience and reasoning are crucial to making good life decisions, Gedalya said.

“Our intelligence is by far our greatest tool,” he said. “It’s unfortunate more don’t understand that if they desire a better life, whatever that may mean to the individual, using resources at their disposal, like their own understanding of the world can be a tremendous asset.”

“When people use their greatest tool – their intelligence – and analyze their decision, they will often find the right path. With The End of Days, I want to encourage everyone to find their best self by making affirmative choices.”

For Gedalya, sharing a message of good choices is a personal one, dating back to an experience in his own life.

“When I was writing The End of Days, I reflected on a time as a teenager, when some within my circle concocted a plan to rob a local shop, and I tried to warn them it was a bad idea,” Gedalya said. “But as much as I tried, my message fell upon deaf ears, and they went through with their plan, only to be caught a short time later.”

“Each of us must choose a path to follow, and with this song, I hope to reach those struggling with their direction and give them a small push to making the better choice. Making the choice will be their own, but I’m sure for those that learn from my experiences and The End of Days will find a lesson from music is preferred over learning the hard way.”

The song is also slated to be featured at A New Song USA, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to using music to create positive change.

“It’s easy to get down and believe nothing is going right in your life,” Gedalya said. “But what I want people to know is that it is okay to feel that way. We can try to live our best life, but no one is perfect.”

He said that the ability to understand that being wrong is not a defect creates an opportunity to better connect with others.

“With this song, I delve into that acceptance of the middle ground and the ability to accept things as they are, and find peace in that,” Gedalya said.

The song leans into Gedalya’s classic and timeless Rock and Roll sound, with an upbeat melody that draws in the listener.

“It’s all about embracing our mistakes,” he said. “You have to look back with a positive attitude at your mistakes and learn from them. That should be a joyous process.”

He also explores the complexity of relationships by acknowledging that at some point, everyone will be faced with the reality of being objectively wrong.

“Being human means standing behind incorrect ideas,” Gedalya said. “But if we love enough, we can look back and see our flawed nature sometimes leads us into believing falsehoods that hurt others, but if we can understand each other, we can learn to embrace acknowledging when we are wrong and when others are right.”

Creating magic with each track, Gedalya is on the right path to become an authentic indie sensation with his beautiful folk and rock musical pieces.

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, April 17, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Known popularly as the Folk Rock Rabbi, Gedalya is on the route to become a stunning and striking musical powerhouse, creating musical masterpieces that inspire and comfort. With his new single titled aptly “Cruel to the Kind”, he explores relatable themes of sincerity and compassion and reimagines a world without the security of law enforcement. Strongly believing that law enforcement services make sure that people are able to explore and enjoy their rights and freedom, he rethinks the norms. Law enforcement agencies allow citizens to enjoy basic amenities and without their support and presence, society could debilitate into utter chaos and people would be unable to celebrate, mourn and worship, making their sacrifices essential and vital for everyone.

The song is also available for free download on his website and is all set to climb up the charts with a full release on Spotify and online streaming platforms on June 1st, 2021. Widely acclaimed for creating music that is both relatable and rich, Gedalya plans to keep on creating music that inspires and is relatable to people’s lives and events.
(New York) While no one can deny the overwhelming challenges many faced in 2020, Gedalya, known as the Folk-Rock Rabbi, tried to make the most out of the difficult situation by utilizing his infectious positive attitude to record music and develop innovative ways to connect with his fans.

“For me it’s not just about music,” Gedalya said. “it’s about finding that light at the end of the tunnel or enjoying the rainbow after a storm. The ‘Folk-Rock Rabbi’ has always been about grace and the efforts this year reflect that persona.”

A significant thread throughout Gedalya’s music is a message of understanding, stemming from a place of peace and acceptance. Being the Folk-Rock Rabbi also means being a bridge to different ideas through music.

“When we understand each other, we can begin to love one another, and that is what it is all about,” Gedalya said.

As a way to help spread music that carries a positive message, he also runs A New Song, a not-for-profit dedicated to spreading positive music.

He also spent 2020 finding ways to help his fans find his own music by making his entire catalogue available through gedalyasings.com.

“For a while now, I have wanted to have one place for my fans to find out about my latest releases, or live performance information,” Gedalya said. “So I spent 2020 making that a reality.”

Now he said, even more features are on the way.

“Very soon, I hope to have a live virtual ‘backyard concert,’ on the website,” Gedalya said. “That will be so much fun and I’m hoping we can work that out. Keep an eye out for details soon.”

Another feature on the horizon is free downloads with sign-up.

“For my subscribers not only can they get exclusive access to my latest news, we hope to include free downloads soon,” he said.

(New York) Ever positive and always catchy, Gedalya, known around the world as the Folk-Rock Rabbi has released his newest music video, “Cruel to the Kind,” a tongue-in-cheek look at a world without law enforcement.

The video is available to view on YouTube and is one of 90 videos on his channel and is also currently available to download for free on Gedalya’s website, gedlyasings.com, home to his entire catalogue.

“Members get access to a huge amount of materials,” he said. “Access to streaming, exclusive access to the YouTube channel, and steeply discounted downloads are all perks to those that sign up at gedalyasings.com/super-fans.

While almost all of Gedalya’s music contains a message for the listener, “Cruel to the Kind” is perhaps one of his most potent and timely releases.

“I understand why some may believe law enforcement cause unrest in some limited places and situations, but in general, society benefits from their continuing sacrifices,” Gedalya said.

For those unfamiliar with the artist, he hopes this release can be a gateway to his uplifting missives.

“It’s always a blast to put together a video to accompany a song that I am passionate about,” Gedalya said. “But for my fans that have subscribed to my website, they are getting exclusive access to my entire catalogue, including all of the videos available on my YouTube channel.”

He encourages those that go to the website to hear or download the song to take a moment and say hello in the guestbook.

“It’s so encouraging to hear from fans how my songs have made an impact in their lives,” Gedalya said. “And I love to see people from across the U.S. and the globe checking in. Every song, every video and every concert is for them, and it warms my heart to see so many that have taken the time to visit gedalyasings.com and listen to my music.”

Gedalya’s music is known for its light upbeat style, while containing powerful uplifting messages in the lyrics.

With “Cruel to the Kind,” Gedalya explores a world without the security of law enforcement.

“I believe that the world is a much better place thanks to the efforts of police everywhere,” Gedalya said. “With the continuing work of those that keep us all safe we are free to celebrate and mourn, worship and strive for a better life, all thanks to their selfless efforts. Without them the world would truly be lost to chaos.”

(New York) Even after finishing 2020 with a new album, the launch of an online music outreach not for profit and the development of a website that would house his entire catalogue, Geoffrey Sloshay – who performs under the stage name Gedalya and is popularly referred to as the Folk-rock Rabbi – has already jumped headfirst into 2021, with a new single available now on all major music platforms.

“My Little World” was released early as an exclusive at gedalyasings.com, the home to the Gedalya catalogue, and was well received by subscribers.

“It’s song about getting out into the world and leaving fear and worry behind,” Gedalya said. “It’s not always comfortable, but to connect with others, you have to get a little uncomfortable.”

Now he is excited to get it out to a larger audience.

“I love that all of my music is still available in one place but having “My Little World” available now on all of those digital platforms opens the song up to a lot more people,” Gedalya said.

Allowing subscribers access to new singles early is something Gedalya is happy to offer as well.

Many of Gedalya’s songs speak to the power of positivity, compassion and understanding. That message also carries through into A New Song, a not-for-profit organization that works to promote songs that celebrate those ideas as well.

A New Song was launched last year with Gedalya at the helm.

“State of Grace” is a recent addition to the platform, speaking to the fear from peer pressure that sometimes stops people from living their fullest life.

“With its inclusion in the A New Song roster, with the help of our generous patrons, it will reach a wider audience than if it was just me promoting it,” Gedalya said.

“Especially after a year that was so difficult, I find many people are taking time out to really try to understand everything that happened and how it impacted their own lives,” Gedalya said. “I know I did and that is what you hear reflected in “My Little World.”

However, looking back is only a part of the transition from 2020 to 2021, imagining the possibilities of the new year is also important, he said.

“We all have things that deep down we want to accomplish, or to be a part of,” Gedalya said. “This is a perfect time to really focus on those dreams and those goals. I think it is just a great way to kick off 2021.”

The song also recognizes the difficulty in taking on challenging goal.

“Everyone, but especially artists, have to push their way through challenges, whatever they may be to find their voice,” Gedalya said. “At its heart that is what this song is about; doing what is necessary to achieve that personal growth.”

Gedalya radiates pure positivity on the soulful “The Lord is Kind”. Sung straight from the heart, Gedalya taps into the very soul of folk music. Originally a communal sort of sound one that brought people together, he brings out this long-forgotten element to deliver a message of pure reassurance. No judgement, no loneliness, only love flows through the whole of the piece one of pure acceptance and the utmost of grace. Behind him, the band works to further reinforce this message without needing to say a single word because his verses are all that are needed. Every word is chosen with the greatest of care for every little element matters. By far though the very centre of it rests with his caring vocals, the sorts of things that are easy to get lost in.

Buildup here happens with such considered movements. The rhythm possesses a giddy energy one that serves to hold up the infectious sense of joy that touches every small flourish with the sound. Within the tempo the percussion is kept restrained yet crystal clear, effortlessly working with the power of his voice. Never overdoing things the simple yet effective approach helps to give it a tremendous kindness, one that feels ever so peaceful with the cyclical nature of the whole of the work.

“The Lord is Kind” reveals Gedalya to be a singer-songwriter of the highest calibre one who crafts a lovely, warm, and welcoming world a world not dissimilar from what is all around us.

(New York) Breathing light into a time of tribulation, Gedalya, known by his fans as the Folk-rock Rabbi, released 2020 Visionary on New Year’s Eve, giving listeners a sweet denouement on a year that was anything but.

The six song EP is available for download now at gedalyasings.com.

“Some may think this is the worst time to release an album that praises positivity, reminds people to be kind to each other and to seek out good when it is missing, but even among the difficulty loving acts still transpired this year and as we look back, I wanted people to reflect more on those good things,” Gedalya said.

“It’s really a passion project for me that I think people will find comfort in,” he said. “’Conspiracy Theories’ is a fun track that got some attention as a single earlier this year. ‘Giving Feels Good’ shares a message of community, ‘The Lord is Kind’ talks about universal truth and justice, on top of a light pop beat. On this album are some of my best tracks, and I really hope everyone hops on my website and gives them a listen. I think they will enjoy listening to the album as much as I enjoyed writing and recording it.”

Gedalya also moved his entire collection onto his website this year, including a collection of piano and vocal works from 1990-2015.

“Today, it seems that having faith is often seen as counter to being successful,” Gedalya said. “But it shouldn’t be seen that way, I want people to understand you can have both in life.”

Finding a positive message is often a feature of Gedalya’s work and this song stays true to that missive, telling of a criminal that finds mercy and hanging its hat on finding grace when it is needed the most.

“Faith is a mindset,” Gedalya said. “But so is success. Knowing that through faith you can find success is a powerful message that I don’t think we hear often enough. So, this song reflects that, but also the difference between the two, and how sometimes grace can be found in the worst of times in a person's life, but that can make all the difference.”

People can always pursue their dreams, he said, and setbacks should not stop progress.

“You shouldn’t feel the need to bang your head on the wall when things don’t go your way,” Gedalya said. “Life rarely goes exactly to plan, but your successes come from pursuing your dreams, and no one can take those away from you.”

“Through the song you hear the story of a man that could have easily given up,” he said. “He doesn’t and it's his faith that see's him through and delivers him to a better place. In this year of tragedies and celebrations, I cannot conceive of a more important message to wrap up 2020. Don’t settle, don’t relent to pressure and don’t let tragedy get in the way of your dreams.”

Dec. 1, 2020 (New York) – Just in time for Hanukkah, Folk-rock singer-songwriter Gedalya has released “The Lesson of the Flame,” a musical reflection of the need for positive spirituality during difficult situations.

“Finding ways to get through hardship is central to religion,” Gedalya said. “And I wanted this song to reflect the powerful combination of faith and positivity.

“It’s my first time writing a holiday song, or even writing a song directly about Judaism, for that matter,” he said. “Even though I wrote the song with the holiday season in mind, it’s about more than just the annual celebration. I wanted to convey the power in continuity and history. This Hanukkah many of us are experiencing a year of tragedies, but by learning from tradition and remaining faithful we can find better times. I tried to reflect that in ‘The Lesson of the Flame.’”

The song speaks directly to the power of positivity, especially during times of tribulation.

“Finding yourself can be a challenge, especially when times are difficult,” Gedalya said. “This year especially I have seen so many struggle with what is happening in the world. I wanted to make sure they heard a positive message for the holiday, but also I wanted anyone that hears the song to feel – deep down – that their situation can also get better. Now is the time to look inward to find the strength to make it to those better times.”

While the song reflects Gedalya’s faith, he said its spiritual message is universal.

“I wanted ‘The Lesson of the Flame’ to speak directly to the listener’s soul,” he said. “But the message of the song is not inherent to a particular faith; rather it speaks to a state of being. It’s a frame of mind that brings light to the dark and the blessings of that kind of a life are tremendous.”

Nov. 15, 2020 (New York) – On the heels of the release of his newest album, 2020 Visionary, folk rock singer songwriter Gedalya is taking a look back at early tracks with his collection of piano and vocal tracks from 1990-2015 available now on major streaming services.

Included in the collection is the heartfelt track, “If I Were Superman,” a song that was a cornerstone of performances in the ‘90s.

“’If I Were Superman’ was a huge part of my set back then and I am excited to bring it back into the light with its inclusion in this collection,” Gedalya said. “Some songs stick with you, even if they didn’t become a smash success. This is one of those songs and I hope it brings as much joy for those hearing it now for the first time as it did for those that heard it in my early days in the city.”

He wrote the track at just 21 years old after driving from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to New York City.

“I was living the life of a typical starving artist at the time,” Gedalya said. “In those difficult times, you look toward your heroes and wonder, ‘What would they do in this situation.’ My childhood hero was Superman and I was young and still dreaming of my time to fly. The song was a direct product of that youthful exuberance and naiveté.”

Even as years have passed and life has brought challenges and rewards for the artist, “If I Were Superman,” is as relevant now as it was the day Gedalya first performed it.

“I think the song sticks out because of its heartwarming message,” he said. I think everyone can relate to it.”

The track combines a solo haunting piano backing with a clean melody presented through the lyrics. For Gedalya the song is a perfect reflection of a young artist trying to find a way to share his vision of the world.

“At the time I was thinking I would never make it, but I wasn’t ready to give up making it big, I reflected that idea in the line ‘I’m just a kid from Brooklyn, trying to keep my dream alive,’ in the track,” he said. “Many of the songs from this collection are still dear to me. I remember writing this song and just letting go of all of my uncertainty at the time. I hope now, as we revisit it, others can listen and reflect on their own dreams.

The track is featured on his newest album, 2020 Visionary, and is available now online at gedalyasings.com/music.

“As I watched others around me struggling through the year, I wondered what if everyone just took some time to really dig into how they are feeling and find ways to move forward,” Gedalya said. “The song is that idea come to life. By peacefully by embracing their inner spirituality, I believe those that are struggling could find ways to cope with the increasingly difficult situations that we are all facing in 2020,” he said.

The simple, yet profound lyrics are accompanied by Gedalya’s signature piano backing and a light drums that embody the message of the lyrics in a musical form.

“I wanted the words to really carry the message,” Gedalya said. “So I purposefully created a light melody that blends perfectly with the harmonic accompaniment to create an easy listening piece that reflects what I hope people take from the song – the idea that it is okay to step away from the trials and tribulations of today’s world and secure your peace.”

“Music can be transformational and my hope is that people absorb the song’s message and embrace the joy that can only come from the understanding of your spirituality that comes in times of quiet reflection,” he said.

The song also reflects the folk-rock singer-songwriter’s hope that peace can be created through positive changes.

“Deep down we all want to live in peace,” Gedalya said. “If we can learn to let go of our pride and selfishness, if we take time to think through our actions and their impacts, if we come to understand what it means to be responsible to ourselves and each other in a way that creates positive ripples throughout the world, we can shape the world to reflect our inner peace. This song is the result of my efforts to search inside myself and use what I found to shape a better world.”
